When we last met Queen Reina in The Dark Side, she restored the balance between Dark and Light. Creatures moved freely between the Sides, embracing their brilliance and their shadow. But whispers are stirring of a place known as the In-Between, where creatures of all kinds are losing themselves in its mysterious haze. Will the Queen save the day once again? Or will she finally meet her match…
Discover a whole new cast of alluring characters, from ravenous vampires to cunning nymphs, fierce dragons to hypnotic timekeepers. Escape into our seductive underworld at The Dark Side: Chapter Two presented by Luminesque Dance at The Vogue Theatre on January 22 + January 29.
WE WISH TO ACKNOWLEDGE…
…that we gratefully rehearsed for and are performing this show on the stolen land of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are committed to working to decolonize our business, which includes, but is certainly not limited to, telling stories that encourage Indigenous folks to reclaim their space onstage and off-stage in their everyday lives.
WE ALSO WISH TO ACKNOWLEDGE…
…that dance is a part of culture, which involves and intersects with many histories, geographies, lived experiences, and generational inequalities. We dance to tell stories, which makes our modality a meaningful form of art that deserves respect and acknowledgment of its origins. Heels dance as an art is inspired and informed by cultures from the African Diaspora, Latinx cultures, Indian culture, LGBTQ+ community culture, kink culture, and the sex work profession. As participants in and appreciators of these cultures, we are committed to dismantling the systems that seek to oppress them. We do so by examining our own biases, integrating diverse perspectives, investing back into these communities, continually educating ourselves, and creating a culture of accountability with our team, students, and advisors. We believe that by encouraging otherwise oppressed voices and bodies to claim their space onstage, we contribute to building a world where everyone can shine.
ABOUT LUMINESQUE
Luminesque Dance is the heels dance program and show, guaranteed to make you glow! Our mission is to provide expertly-designed heels dance training and public dance shows that serve as a safe and empowering space to explore and celebrate otherwise repressed expressions of self and sexuality. Our PROGRESS program guides beginner to advanced dancers through a comprehensive deep dive into the context, history, foundations, skills, technique, and performance of heels dance style. The cast of hundreds of dancers (who you’ll see on stage at this show!) then celebrates their achievements through a larger-than-life show at one of Vancouver’s premiere venues to a supportive audience of thousands of friends and family. Classes are open to dancers of all adult (19+) ages, gender expressions and levels of experience – including those who have never taken a dance class before!
